also New Math!

Here's the Bird! It looks kind of like a toucan with a twinkle in its eye, but it is a piece of engineering! It is geometry and physics providing a better solution to an old guitar problem: clamping the strings to allow greater ease in playing in otherwise less comfortable keys.

To get the most out of the Bird, as with most things in life, you should spend some time getting the feel of it.

Leaves the Guitar in Tune

Springs and elastic exert an overbearing set force which causes strings to be stretched out of tune. Because the Bird uses a cam, the player has direct control of force on the string giving the same sensitivity as a bar chord formed by hand.

Safe on Fine Instruments

The materials selected for the Bird are advanced, guitar and environment-friendly. Pads are a special non-reactive polymer that does not chemically discolor finishes. The hard parts of the Bird are plastics that are light and don't scratch and ding instruments the way that metal capos do. (top of page)

No Hand Strain

Patented Cam (Wedge) action is direct mechanical force. When you make a bar you apply only as much force as you need. The Bird allows you to put as much force as you need and no more.

Continuously Adjustable

The rather large "body" area is necessary to allow enough cam surface travel to give the bird sensitive and controllable adjustment. This allows the user to put just enough pressure without throwing the strings out of tune - unlike other capos.

Works on All Fretted Instruments

The very long beak will accommodate the widest classical guitar or 12-string. the narrowest telecaster or mandolin or banjo. The combination of slight curvature and carefully selected durometer (elasticity) in the upper pad makes it possible to accommodate different curvatures to a flat finger board.

One Hand application

The Bird can be applied with one hand. This is where it helps to get the "feel" of it. Assuming that you are applying the capo with the left hand, hold it in the palm of your hand with your middle and ring fingers in the beak and your thumb on the "wing". Pull the cam back and spread the beak with your fingers. Now use the big thumb muscle (pollex major) to press the cam in and close the beak. Repeat this several times. (top of page)

Environmentally Planned Packaging

We want to keep the environment safe for future generations of toucans, leopards and humans so our paper is recycled, our inks are biodegradable, our bag is recyclable and our Bird is made environmentally friendly ABS and Polycarbonate plastics.

The Bird has Personality

Some folks talk to their Birds and some even have their Birds talk to them! The art of ventriloquism lives! (top of page)
